Smoke and Mirrors....Honestly that is all makeup really is. It creating a certine look or using techniques to create something that isnt naturally there!

Same goes for Contorting and GEES am i thankful for contouring!
Its a simple form of makeup, creating shadows and highlight to change the apperace of your bone structure!
In my case making me look like i have a defined jaw line and high cheekbones.....which i dont!
Contouring can also be used to slim down your forehead, shorten your nose or soften the strong line of a square face!

I have touched on contouring in my foundation routine but my face shape isnt the same as everyone's. So by watching the tutorial it might not be suited for your face shape! so i wanted to go IN DEPTH and explore and explain contouring with all face shapes help you all out!
So if you interested in contorting your face or want to learn more Keep on reading!

Before you even start contouring you need to know what face shape you have!

These are the basic shapes of faces

If your unsure there is a simple way to work it out!

WORK OUT YOUR FACE SHAPE!
1- Pull all your hair off your face so your face shape is visible
2- Stand in frount of a mirror
3- Using a lipliner or a whiteboard marker trace the outline of your face! You will need to stay very    still and  you will feel a bit uncoordinated but trust me this works!
4- Once face shape has been drawn stand back and look at the shape! Use pictures for reference and WA LA you should be able to work out your face shape!

So Are you ready to start changeing your faceshape with makeup!!??

YOU WILL NEED

-apply your foundation and a tiny bit of powder!
-You will need a Matte Bronzer or a powder a few shades darker then your skintone!
 You want to use matte colours because they will look the most natural! you dont want glitter and    shimmer all over your face!
- And lastly a white (or peach if your darker skinned) eyeshadow or highlighter (a little bit of shimmer wouldnt hurt)

TIP BEFORE WE START!

Anything that is contoured with a dark shade will appear smaller or sunken in
Anything that is highlighted with a light shade will appear more obvious or raised out more!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first ones we will start with are the Oblonge, Rectangle and Square face as they are very similar
OBLONGE FACE CHARACTERISTICS
~You will have a face that is longer then it is wide
~Your jaw line will be softly rounded
~The sides of your face are straight -- your forehead, cheekbones and    jaw-line    are the same width
~Your hairline may be rounded
SQUARE FACE CHARACTERISTICS
~Your face is almost as wide as it is long
~Your jaw is broad and your jaw-line is square
~The sides of your face are straight -- your forehead,
cheekbones and jaw are the same width
~Your hairline is most probably straight
RECTANGLE FACE CHARACTERISTICS
~Your face is definitely longer than wide
~Your jaw is broad and your jaw-line is square
~The sides of your face are straight -- your forehead,
cheekbones and jaw-line are the same width
~Your hairline is most likely straight
CONTOURING A OBLONGE, RECTANGLE AND SQUARE FACE!
You want to start by contouring the corners of your face to make them appear more angular, slim your face down and give it a softer edge! Add highlight to your forehead and chin to gove your face some more dimention rather then being too flat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DIAMOND FACE CHARACTERISTICS
~Your face is slightly longer than wide
~Your jaw-line is long and pointed
~Your cheekbones are the widest part of your face. They are often
high and pointed
~Your forehead and jaw-line are tapered
~Your eyes, nose and mouth are well balanced vertically

 CONTOURING DIAMOND FACE
Because your Cheekbones are the highlest and the widest parts of you face
you need to contour these to make your face appear more even.
By adding highlight to your chin are forhead this will elongate these
areas and make them more balances with the rest of you face!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INVERTED TRIANGLE & HEART CHARACTERISTICS
The only difference between the inverted triangle and the heart shaped faces are that the heart has a widows peak.
~Your face is slightly longer than wide
~Your jaw-line is long and pointed
~The sides of your face taper from your forehead to your jaw
~Your forehead is the widest part of your face, or the
same width as your cheekbones
~Your jaw is the narrowest part of your face
CONTOURING INVERTED TRIANGLE & HEART SHAPE
Because your face is quite angular to start off with, basically your just enhancing the features of your face!
By Highlighing the under eye area you are bringing the front of your cheekbones forwards, detracting away from the width of your face, By highlighing your forhead and chin your adding more defintion and a dewy finish to your skin!
Contouring the sides of your forehead and cheeks, will help slim it down and give you more definition.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

TRIANGLE FACE CHARACTERISTIC
~our face is slightly longer than wide
~Your jaw is broad
~The side of your face tapers from your jaw to your forehead
~our jaw is the widest part of your face and your forehead is narrow

CONTOURING TRIANGLE FACE

Contour the side of your face to slim them down, By highlighiting your chin your going to draw attention to it and enlongate the length,
Also by highlighting the forehead your going to make it appear wider and have draw more attention to it! Highlight under the eyes to give your face the illusion of cheekbones!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ROUND FACE SHAPE CHARACTERISTICS
~our face is almost as wide as it is long
~Your jaw-line is round and full
~Your cheekbones are the widest part of your face and round
~Your hairline is most probably round
CONTOURING ROUND FACE
Because your face is sooooo round you can be prone to having a "Baby Face" you need to add some structure back into your face! So go heavy with the contouring! on the Temples, Cheekbones and the sides of the jaw you give you LOTS more definition!
By Highlight your chin and forehead you can bring these areas forward and give your face a more angular shape!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

OVAL FACE CHARATERISTICS! (ME)

~Your face is slightly longer than wide
~Your jaw-line is slightly rounded
~The outline of your face is an inverted egg-shape -- your
face is widest at the cheekbones. Your forehead is fairly broad
(broader than you jaw)
~Your face can be divided into 3 equal horizontal sections
between the hairline, eyebrows, end of nose and chin
~Your eyes are evenly spaced, with one eye width distance between them
~Your face has no extreme characteristics.
For example you do not have very small or very large eyes, mouth or nose.

CONTOURING OVAL FACE

Basically an oval face doesnt have much shape either
All this picture demonstraits is highlighting to bring areas of your face into focus and make them more prominate. But if you want to create more cheek bones contour similar to the Round face shape!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So as always this is JUST A GUIDE! Rules are always meant to be broken! but if your starting out wiht contouring this is a great guide to help you on your way!
To finish off i wanted to touch on Nose contouring
Countouring your nose can make it seem slimer or shorter/longer. It helps also to add more definition to your features
This is a simple method and works for most nose shapes
Contour down the sides of your nose can make your nose appear straighter and slimmer
Highlighting down the center of your nose makes it appear longer
and by contouring the bottom of your nose (near nostrals) will make your nose appear shorter
So thats pretty much all! I know this is quite a long blog post but no one is the same and i really wanted to cover contouring for everyone!
